Navistar International MaxxForce Advanced EGR diesel engines received certification from the US Environmental Protection Agency.
MaxxForce Advanced EGR diesel technology provides an in-cylinder solution to handle emissions reduction inside the engine, rather than utilizing additional after-treatment equipment utilized for SCR. While SCR systems are projected to offer a slight improvement in fuel efficiency in some applications, they also require the additional fluid - urea, so the cost of it must be taken into consideration, along with the additional downtime needed to service the SCR system each year. With all these things considered, the operating cost advantage goes to EGR diesel technology.
